Energy Benchmarking

The NJ Green Homes Office (GHO) and the NJ Housing & Mortgage Finance Agency (NJHMFA) are conducting Energy Benchmarking research on developments within NJHMFA's portfolio. By tracking utility bills for the multifamily developments that NJHMFA works with, we will be able to see how each building is performing compared to similar buildings in NJHMFA's portfolio and to those in other states.

The benefits of tracking utility data are threefold: (1) to track the success of past energy upgrades, such as solar PV installations, co-generation, ENERGY STAR® certification, and other programs offered through both NJHMFA and other state programs; (2) it will allow NJHMFA, as a financial institution, to provide a basis for expected utility cost reduction through certain energy programs; and (3) to find out what projects are most in need and to provide them with direction on upcoming energy efficiency programs and upgrade opportunities.

The results of this research will be posted on this website without project identifiers.
